Business activity: Production and sales of linen clothing via Etsy

Company size: ~10 employees

Experience before and after the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is shared by Gabrielė Januškevičiūtė, designer at LINEN ID and Managing Director of UAB Uabas, and Sigita Vaičiulytė, Orders Coordinator.

What does LINEN ID do?

LINEN ID designs and produces linen garments sold through Etsy. Successful performance on Etsy depends not only on product quality, visuals, and keywords, but also on customer experience—particularly timely order fulfillment. To achieve this, the company needs to ensure timely procurement of raw materials, proper capacity planning, and smooth production processes.

How were processes managed before Business Central?

Before implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, operations involved a high level of manual work and duplicated data. This led to frequent errors and operational inefficiencies, particularly in raw material planning.

Fabric inventory was tracked visually. Each morning, stock levels had to be checked manually, and production staff were asked to report when materials were running low. This approach often resulted in situations where production could not be completed due to insufficient materials, despite confirmed orders. In such cases, orders had to be cancelled, refunded, or modified—negatively impacting customer experience.

Why was there a need for a business management system?

Several factors led to the decision to implement a business management system. During the пандемic period, demand for face masks increased significantly, generating a volume of orders that exceeded production capacity. This highlighted the limitations of operating without a structured system. As a result of unfulfilled orders, Etsy temporarily suspended the company’s online store. Avoiding similar situations in the future became a key priority.

Additionally, changes in EU VAT regulations for e-commerce created new compliance requirements. Adapting the existing accounting system to these changes would have been complex and inefficient.

Why was Business Central selected?

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central was chosen for its modern and user-friendly interface, efficient search functionality, and availability of required modules, including finance and manufacturing. Integration with Etsy was also an important factor. The cloud-based nature of the system, the ability to export data to Excel, and the reliability associated with Microsoft as the platform provider contributed to the decision. The availability of multiple implementation partners also added flexibility.

What benefits did the system bring?

The system provides a structured approach to raw material and production planning, inventory management, and accounting.

One of the most significant improvements is the ability to accurately track fabric inventory. Users can quickly access filtered views of specific materials and see real-time stock levels. Inventory accuracy has improved significantly—from discrepancies of several kilometers of fabric in the previous system to approximately 30 meters after implementation. It is also easy to add new materials or adjust stock levels after inventory checks. Overall, processes are now faster, more automated, and more reliable.
